Article

Such a word which is used to show a thing common or proper.

Kinds of Article

There are only three article (a, an and the) and two kinds of article.

1. Definite Article

“The” is only one definite article. This is used to show a word proper .For example,

(a) The doctor was not at home.

Doctor has become a proper word due to article. It means doctor is special.

2. Indefinite Article

There are two (a, an) indefinite article. Both are used to show a word common. For example,

(a) I eat an apple.

(b) I eat a banana.

Both (a, an) are indefinite articles. But usage of them is different. A is used before a sound of consonant word and an is used before vowel sound. As example are given above.

★ Omission of  the article

Some places where article is omitted as following. 

1. Before the names of boys, girls, children, men, and Women.e.g. Kashif and sultan are best friend.

2. Before the languages. For example I know how to speak English. 

3. Before village, town, cities, country and continent. For example , Pakistan and china are both in Asia .

4. Before abstract noun and materials noun, if of is not coming after them. For example , health is better than wealth.
